I started writing this article a few days ago when Zack Snyder wasn’t confirmed as the director.hell,even Ben Affleck wasn’t the rumored confirmation. I know am slow. Sue me.

After the disappointment that was Superman Returns, yes, it is a disappointment. From the casting to the direction it was flawed from the start. Brandon Routh was a good Clark Kent  but didn’t deliver a Superman both in physique and acting wise. Action wise even. I Blame Bryan Singer for most of that. We all had such high hopes in him for making The X-men movies rock, so no on one saw that coming. Kate Bosworth was a miscast and the brilliant Kevin Spacey was underplayed. The movie didn’t offer anything new. Who wants to see Superman fight an island again? He is the man of steel, for crying out loud. not a land surveyor. And don’t get me started on the kid. And now that Christopher Nolan is at the helm of the superman reboot, we may get the retribution we want in a superman movie. But here’s something I’d like to share as well.

Take SupermanII for an example. The best of the superman movies. It had General Zod as the very formidable villain who gives Superman a run for his money and life. It had pretty good  fight scenes. But overall, it had a very good story line: the basis of all good movies. We want to see something of that caliber again. Him facing off against larger than life foes. Zod is basically Superman sans his humanity which makes him a very good character as well.And I’d like to see Liam Neeson take up that role. I know he was in Batman Begins, But think about it. He has what it takes to be Zod, height,physique,the voice.the man can play just any part.

And then there’s the greatest superman villains, whom we haven’t seen on the big screen yet. From Brainiac,Darkseid to Doomsday. They would pose the biggest threat to the MOS. for they’re the most formidable of enemies. In fact, they are more than that. The fight scenes between any of them would be just epic. Even Cyborg and Conduit will provide a movie with fun action scenes that we fans would love with Eclipso or Bizarro serving as secondary villains. And not more than two villains in one movie(taking cues from Spiderman 3).

So,how will the new Superman take form? We all have seen what Director Zack Snyder can do. His movies 300 and watchmen proved that if there’s anyone who can do the movie, its him. visually it will be just awesome(let’s hope he keeps the slo-mo actions to a minimum too).will it be an origin story(no) or one with an established Superman who faces something that we haven’t seen before?  no matter what it may be, we have two people to put our faith upon. And let’s hope they bring back the MOS back for good with a bang this time.
